Hey guYs!!Its been a while! But I am here to share tips to my trip to CUBA!! Please be advise, if you're thinking about going you must know that this is not paradise. Cuba is a very poor place; travel with an open mind. I really enjoyed myself on this journey. Exchange your currency at your bank. There's a $5 fee but less expensive than the airport. You can exchange to Euros or Canadian Dollars. Once you get to CUBA they have machines to exchange your currency to CUC (Cuban Dollars). Tip 2 - ToiletriesPack enough toiletries. Wipes & hand sanitizer a must. Tip 3 - LanguageTry picking up some basic Spanish words. No one there speak english. I downloaded a app "CUBA" it helped a bit. (Your able to use this offline) Tip 4 - AreaStay close to the area where you'll spend most of your time. We stayed in Mira Mar; most of our time was spent in Central and Old Havana. So we spent a lot of money on taxi's. Tip 5 - BudgetBudget yourself!! It is very easy to run out of money and you cannot take any USD out of the ATM. Make sure you exchange enough. EX: We stayed 3 days and took $600 with us. Came home with $80. Tip 6 - LocalsDo not be afraid to interact with the locals. Cuba is one of the most safest place to travel to. Although its a poor country everyone is humble and happy. The people there were amazing. Meeting and greeting the locals is what made the trip exciting. Tip 7 - RestaurantsTry looking for great restaurants ahead of time; especially if you do not know the Spanish language nor do you have family or friends that reside there. At some places, food did not taste good. Lets try to avoid that!! Use "Tripadvisor" to discover 5 star restaurants. Tip 8 - WiFi cardNO Service! NO Service! NO Service! You can purchase a $2 Wifi Card, It'll give you 1 Hr of wifi. We only purchase 2 cards a day. One to use in the morning and one at night. Tip 9 - BeachDO NOT I Repeat DO NOT Leave without visiting their white and sandy beaches!! The water is clean and clear. No rocks or seaweed sticking you at the bottom of your feet. We went to the “Santa Maria Beach” So Beautiful😍 Tip 10 -CigarsDo not purchase cigars off the street. SCAMS!! I purchased mines at the duty free in the airport. Tip 11 - OverchargeAlways be sure to check your receipts; some places may add an extra drink, desert etc. I guess to make money. Also discuss the fare before you get in the taxi!! Tip 12 - WaterOnly drink bottle water. Tip 13 - ShoppingFor souvenirs shop with the locals. Their very appreciative. Tip 14 - SnacksPack lots of snacks!! The only familiar snack they have is Pringles and that was hard to find. Theres no candy, chips or corner store so pack enough snacks because your gonna wanna munch. Tip 15 - GiftsTry going to your local dollar store; purchase some items to give to the cuban people. We gave mostly money to kids and they were so happy and thankful. Their facial expressions were priceless. Tip 16- VisaYou’ll receive your Visa at the airport. We flew Delta it was $50 - Carry your Visa at all times in Cuba this is also proof that you have health insurance. Things To Know•Arrive 2 -3 Hours to airport coming and going •Use people to people as reason for travel •Visa prices may vary from other airlines •Try staying at an AirBnb Worth the trip!!!CUBA was a great experience. To see how they'er living in the conditions; yet still happy and smiling makes you appreciate the littlest and simplest things more!! It was fun and an enlightening adventure, I will definitely be returning.
